The International Managers Forum was founded in the UK in 1992 Before this there was no easy means of sharing and learning from the experiences of other managers and no avenue through which common problems and areas of concern could be discussed.

The formation of the MMF has given managers an opportunity for sharing and learning and also a much-needed voice within the industry. The forum has provided a chance for meaningful dialogue with the Government and other industry organisations as well as between managers themselves.

As a body representing managers:

• The MMF seeks to raise professional standards in management. It also helps its members develop management skills and knowledge of the music industry.
• The MMF considers the proper distribution of performance income to be one of the most important matters on its agenda, and to this end has set up the "Association of United Recording Artists" (AURA). It has a direct bearing on much of the future profitability of our members and the artists they manage.
• Particular emphasis is being placed by the MMF on Manager/Artist contracts. A number of highly publicised cases of Manager/Artist disputes have caused us to take a long hard look at these particular contracts in an endeavour to strengthen them.
• We aim to redress the balance of power between artists and the music industry. The MMF is very concerned at the ease with which artists give up their rights through desperation in order to obtain recording and publishing agreements. We are therefore running a campaign for the return of copyrights to artists.
• We will endeavour to ensure that artists receive a fair share of remuneration from every income source. In particular, we resist reduced royalty rates from new sound carriers and technologies such as digital broadcast, cable and satellite.
• The MMF is deeply committed to a strong independent sector, which it feels is fundamental to the health of the music industry. It actively supports the independents and the artists they sign.
• Education is a cornerstone of the MMF's philosophy and to this end we conduct monthly seminars for our members and others in the industry.
